David Smith joined CAIS in 1998 and has more than 20 years of experience in applied isotope research and laboratory supervision. Mr. Smith’s primary responsibilities include the training and supervision of the Scientific Staff at CAIS, to develop and maintain quality control and standard operating procedures and manuals, enforce laboratory safety procedures and oversee the daily operation of the stable isotope lab. His knowledge of biochemistry, organic chemistry and quantitative analysis enable him to develop new and improved analytical methods and procedures for sample processing for isotope ratio mass spectrometry and accelerator mass spectrometry. Mr. Smith continues to improve his leadership abilities by attending courses in management and supervision through Human Resources’ Office of Training and Development.
