Hai Pan, Ph.D., joined CAIS in 2012, and has more than 10 years of experience in stable isotope research of marine environments. Dr. Pan’s research interests include the application of biomarkers and related isotopic compositions for the study of biogeochemical cycling of organic matter in riverine and marine systems, and for the reconstruction of paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions. Another aspect of his research involves the development of methods for the authentication of natural products through determination of their isotopic hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen signatures. Dr. Pan is also involved in developing Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) for the analysis of 13C and D in solid and liquid organic matter. He received a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Georgia in 2012 and a B.Sc. in Marine Chemistry from the Ocean University of China in 1997. He worked as an environmental engineer from 1997 to 2005, monitoring the air, water and soil quality in Shanghai, China and was also a quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) engineer and an internal auditor of ISO/IEC 17025.
