Scientific divers require periodic scuba diving medical examinations to assess their fitness to engage in diving with self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba).
The 2013 USG AAUS Diving Regulation Manual contains the standards for scientific diving certification and operation of scientific diving programs.
All divers need to submit their dives on the USG dive log sheet. THese dives will be compiled for the annual dive statistics reported to AAUS.

The University System of Georgia Scientific Diving Program currently consists of divers from Georgia State University, Georgia Southern University, The University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Valdosta State University. The Scientific Diving Program is open to all state educational institutions in the state of Georgia.
